12月17日（水）の午後、英語村においてクリスマスイベントが開催されました。皆、紙で雪の結晶を作ったり、クリスマスにちなんだワードサーチをしたり大きなガラスジャーの中にいくつキャンディが詰まっているか当てるゲーム（一番近い数字を予想した人は中身を全部もらえます！）をしながらクリスマスムード盛り上がる中、開会を心待ちにしていました。

最初はクリスマスの歴史、なぜクリスマスと呼ばれるのか、どこでどう始まったのかについてALTのプレゼンで学びました。その後クイズ形式で日本独特のクリスマス食「フライドチキン」やクリスマスケーキが世界から見ると不思議だと知って皆、驚いていました。

その後メインイベントの「みにくいセーターコンテスト」が始まりました。最初、生徒たちはALTから”Ugly Sweater”が何なのか、どこで、どう始まったのかについて学び、その後グループに分かれて紙やビニール袋を使ってコンテストに挑みました。そして最も醜いセーターを作成した３グループが商品を得ることができて大喜びしました。

最後は音楽に合わせてプレゼントを回し音楽が止まった時にプレゼントを手にしていた者が包みを1枚はがし中から出てくるお菓子やカードをもらい、一番最後の包みをはがした者が真ん中の本物のプレゼントを得る「プレゼント回しゲーム」、その次は皆が持ち寄ったプレゼントを別のゲーム形式で交換し、ドキドキワクワクな楽しい時間を過ごしました。

このイベントの中で世界共通のクリスマスの「隣人に思いやりを」をという気持ちを分かち合いました。

On the afternoon of December 17th, a Christmas party was held at HELLO Village. As the students waited eagerly for the event to begin, they made snowflakes out of paper which were used to decorate the communication space. There was also a raffle for a jar of candy where the closest guess to the amount inside of the jar would be
declared the winner and take home all the treats.

The event kicked off with an engaging presentation by one ALT on the history of Christmas. Students were eagerly listening and
learning about how it started and the origine of the name
Christmas and also they were particularly surprised to discover that some beloved Japanese Christmas traditions, like eating Christmas cake and fried chicken, are unique to Japan in a quiz style.

After that, the main event, “Ugly Sweater Contest” started. First,
students learned about the “Ugly Sweater”. What it is like and how it had started. After learning, students got into groups and started making one with scraps paper and plastic bags and challenged the contest. 3 groups that made the ugliest sweater won a prize.

Finally, we played a “Pass the Parcel” game. Participants passed
around a large present which had many layers while Christmas
music played. When the music stopped, the person left holding the present unwrapped a layer to reveal sweets or cards. Everyone
passed the present with a feeling of anticipation and excitement,
hoping to get the final prize in the center. Then, each student
switched real presents that they have brought in another game.

This heartwarming event helped us share the Christmas spirit of
charity and brought joy to all who participated.
