10月29日（水）の放課後、14時〜18時、英語村にてハロウィンイベントが開催されました。参加者はモンスター、魔女や人気キャラクターなどに仮装し英語村に集合しました。最初はALTの先生方それぞれのゲームスタンドを1つ1つ回りハロウィンにちなんだミッションをこなしていきました。

その後、ハロウィンの歴史や事実についてALTの先生方のプレゼンテーションで学び、ハロウィン・ミニ・クイズを楽しみました。そして
「Halloween Envelope Game」では生徒たちはグループに分かれて次々と手渡されるハロウィン柄が描かれた封筒の中に仕込まれた指令をクリアしてポイントを獲得して盛り上がりました。次はお待ちかねのスナックタイムでハロウィンにちなんだお菓子や手作りケーキ、パイに舌鼓を打ちました。

さて、いよいよ、お楽しみのジャッコウランタン作りです。8つのグループに分かれて、まずは直径30センチほどもあるオレンジ色のかぼちゃにデザインを描き、専用の道具で削っていきました。作品の中にはろうそくが灯され、本来は恐ろしいはずなのですが、8つの神秘的で美しい作品に仕上がりました。

このようにして生の英語に触れ、本場のハロウィンを楽しみながら文化的な側面も学び、生徒たちはとても充実した4時間を過ごし、次の大きなイベントの2つである12月13日の「Winter Day Camp」と12月17日の
「Christmas Event」への期待をつのらせました。

On October 29th after school from 14:00 to 18:00, a Halloween
event was held at HELLO Village. Students and teachers who
participated dressed up in costumes: Some were disguised as
monsters, witches, and some as popular manga characters. The
event started with students visiting 6 different activity booths
created by our ALTs and Mayor Kris.

Next, students learned about the history and the facts of
Halloween from an ALT’s presentation which also included a
Halloween mini quiz. Then students all enjoyed “Halloween
Envelope Game”. In groups students had to clear a task in a
Halloween illustrated envelope they received one after another and earned points. After this fun game, they enjoyed having the
Halloween related sweets, and handmade cakes and pies.

Now, the traditional fun time – “Carving pumpkins into a Jack-O’-
Lantern”! Students separated into 8 groups and each group was
supplied with a pumpkin 30cm in diameter. First, they drew their
designs on their pumpkins, and then they started carving with
tools specialized for this activity. In each completed Jack-O’-
Lantern, a small candle was put in and lit. They were supposed to be frightening, but those 8 lanterns somehow looked mysteriously beautiful.

Like this, students were exposed to authentic English, and at the
same time, they enjoyed learning about Halloween in Western
cultures. Everyone had a very pleasant 4 hours which passed by
quickly and left everyone looking forward to the next 2 big events – “Winter Day Camp” on December 13th and “Christmas Event” on December 17th
