　Kumamoto Prefecture was rocked by a series of earthquakes. They started on April 14th. Following the first quake, a 7.3 magnitude tremor struck early April 16th. It was equal in scale to the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. The continued seismic activity caused extensive damage.
