今週のEnglish Showerは、岩手県、高田松原の「奇跡の一本松」です。この松は2011年の津波に耐え抜いた唯一の木だったのですが、海水による損傷により枯死が確認されました。この春にその苗木が島根県の出雲大社の境内に植えられたというものです。

A seedling from Iwate’s “miracle pine” was planted at Izumo Taisha. The miracle pine was the only tree among about 70,000 pines in the Takata Matsubara coastal pine forest that survived. It withstood the tsunami from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Eventually it was declared dead due to seawater damage.
