ヌーサ高校３ヵ月留学へ出発しました。

８月２日，二年次生国際コミュニケーションコースの伊東さんと前田さんが、約３ヶ月間、本校姉妹校のオーストラリア ヌーサ高校への留学のため，日本を発ちました。昨年度末に研修旅行で訪れ、3週間過ごしたヌーサで、今回は現地高校の生徒として学びます。
日本ではできない様々な経験をしてくれることを願っています。

Parliamentary Debate Seminar

The first parliamentary debate seminar of the year was held at HELLO Village on July 15th. This time it consisted of two parts, one was a judging seminar for teachers and the other was a debate seminar and practice for high school students.

14 teams of 3 students each from 8 different schools participated in the seminar. Mr. Kawano was the speaker of the seminar and introduced the outline of parliamentary debate to the students, as well as what they should keep in mind while debating and how to judge.

From Hiyoshigaoka, three teams, one from each grade, participated. There were two debate matches, and the motions for each were, “We should prohibit minors from using smartphones.” and “Anonymous writing on the Internet should be prohibited.” The second–grade team won both times. They were so excited to have an exciting debate, thinking about each motion from various points of view logically.

To the students who haven’t experienced parliamentary debate, it seems a little difficult, but once they have done it, they find it is rewarding and stimulating their mind.

“I really enjoyed it. I am happy we were able to win. It was good to think about how we can form our debate logically.” “It was a good opportunity to know the opinions of the other team and deepen our thoughts.” “I found that debate is not a quarrel but a game to persuade the audience.” “We would lose even if our English proficiency is high.” “You have to constantly express how important your opinion is, with efficient examples.”

We hope more students will be interested in parliamentary debate and enjoy it.

７月１５日（月・祝），今年度第１回パーラメンタリーディベート講習会及び交流会が日吉ケ丘高等学校英語村で実施されました。今回は，午前中は，教員対象ジャッジ講習会，午後は，生徒対象のディベート講習会・交流会が実施されました。今回の講師の先生は，河野周先生で，非常にわかりやすくディベートのやり方，留意点，また，ジャッジの仕方について説明をしてくださいました。

午後の交流会では，８校から１４チームの参加となり，２回対戦を行いました。１回目の論題は，「未成年のスマートフォン使用は禁止すべきだ。」 で，２回目の論題は，「インターネット上への匿名書込みは禁止すべきだ。」でした。

日吉ケ丘高校からは１年次生チーム，２年次生チーム，３年次生チームがそれぞれ１チームずつ出場し，２年次生チームは，２回戦とも勝つことができ，非常に充実した時間となったようです。ディベートというと堅苦しいイメージを持っている人も多いかもしれませんが，実際にこのパーラメンタリーディベートをやってみると，「難しいけど，楽しくてためになる」という感想がほとんどでした。

生徒からの感想抜粋です。
「すごく楽しかったです。やはり勝つとうれしい。構成をしっかり意識できたのでよかったです。また，これほどたくさんの人々に会えたこともうれしいです。」「実践してみて相手の意見を聞いているうちに自分の意見をもっと深めることができた。このような他の人の意見が聞けるような機会がもっとあるといいなあと思った。」「口論，言い争いでなく，オーディエンスを説得する競技ということが分かった。」「英語能力で圧倒しただけでは，負けてしまうこと（が分かった。）」「自分の意見を述べる上で，いかにそれが重要なのかを伝えることが大切だと知りました。そのためにも，exampleとimportanceは常に意識しようと思いました。」

今後もより多くの生徒の皆さんがパーラメンタリーディベートに興味を持ち，楽しんで実践していくことを期待しています。

京都大学留学生との交流会

　6月26日（水）京都大学日本語・日本文化研修留学生16名と、本校生徒が交流会を持ちました。日本語・日本文化研修留学生の皆さんは、京都大学での学びに加えて、学外施設の見学や様々な交流を通して日本の社会や文化に対する理解を深めておられ、その一環として、平成16年以来毎年本校を訪問して下さっています。今年も中国、韓国、タイ、オランダ、ベラルーシ等様々な国からの留学生をお招きし、有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。
　まず昼休みのHELLO Village Week最終イベント「Pub Quiz」に参加してもらいました。初対面にも関わらず、本校生徒とすぐに打ち解けて大いに盛り上げて下さいました。その後、授業見学、教員との交流会を経て、6時間目には3年次生国際コミュニケーションコース生徒と、グループに分かれ、それぞれのテーマについてのディスカッションが行われました。テーマは「勉強と偏差値について」「学校の規則について」等多岐に渡り、お互いの文化や生活習慣について語り合いました。英語で話す場面もありましたが、留学生の皆さんの日本語が大変流暢だったため、日本語を通して話し合うことで、より深い話ができ、大変刺激を受けました。また、言語の力を改めて実感し、外国語を習得する秘訣も教えていただきました。
　放課後は弓道、剣道、相撲、書道、茶道の部活動を見学・体験してもらいました。相撲部や剣道部の迫力、弓道部の静寂さを体感してもらい、茶道部ではお点前をいただき、書道部では皆で「令和」と「越境」の文字を完成させました。部員も案内していた本校生徒も共に楽しい時間を過ごし、日本の武道や文化を見直すよい機会となりました。

　On June 26th, 16 international students at Educational Center for Japanese Language and Culture at Kyoto University visited Hiyoshigaoka High School. In addition to studying at the Center, they deepen their understanding about Japanese society and culture by visiting facilities outside the campus and communicating with people there. As a part of the activity, students at the Center visit our high school every year. This relationship between Hiyoshigaoka and Kyoto University actually has a long history and is now more than 10 years old!
　This year, we invited international Kyodai students from China, Korea, Thai, Netherlands and Belarus and so on. They first joined Kris’ ‘Pub Quiz ’that was the final lunch-time event of HELLO Village Week. They worked together with Hiyoshigaoka students and liven up the event! After that, they had ‘fierce’ discussions with teachers and then joined a class-visit tour. At the six period, they talked about social and cultural differences with students at Hiyoshigaoka. We had 7 groups each of which has a specific discussion topic such as ‘Study and the Deviation Value’ and ‘On School Rules’. The international students were so good at speaking Japanese, the communication tool became mainly Japanese, leading to fruitful and stimulating results. For both side could make themselves understood in a deeper way. Our students were really impressed by their fluent Japanese and asked tips for language learning.
　After school, they had a club-activity tour that includes Japanese Archery, Kendo, Sumo, Calligraphy, and Tea Ceremony. They enjoyed the powerfulness of Kendo and Sumo, the tranquility of Japanese Archery, a Matcha green tea at Tea Ceremony, and wrote Chinese characters such as ‘令和’ and ‘越境’ at Calligraphy. The members of these club activities and the tour guides (i.e. our students) also enjoyed the visit that gave them opportunities to reconsider their own cultures.
