越境経験報告会 "Ekkyo Report" sessions

4月30日（水）放課後、Hello Village、Communication Spaceにて、東京で開催された「PDWCディベート世界交流大会2025」に参加した3人と「Vietnam Fieldwork」に参加した3人の報告会が催されました。

まずは、PDWCに参加した生徒達からディベート会場の熱気や緊張が伝えられ、力を尽くして戦い抜いた様子や他国の高校生達と英語を共通語にどのように交流し仲良くなれたか、交流イベントでの楽しかったエピソードなどが報告されました。そして、相手に伝えたいことがあれば、なんとしても伝えようとする姿勢と意志が大事で、英語を話す際の間違いを気にしていては通じないということを英語を母国語としない競技者から学んだ話は印象的でした。

次にVietnam Fieldworkに参加した生徒達からはベトナムという国の文化、生活習慣、食事などホームステイや高校訪問を通して知ったこと、感じたことなどの発表がありました。Le Quy Don高校では暖かい歓迎を受けSTEM学習の授業に参加させていただいた経験や食後のお昼寝タイムにびっくりしたことなどについて語られました。このフィールドワークは全体を通して楽しい学びに満ちていましたが、最後に訪れたベトナム戦争跡博物館では戦争の現実的な姿に接し言葉では表現できない悲しみを感じたことなども発表されました。

この報告を通してこれらの国際的な経験が参加者たちに深く決定的な影響を与えたことは間違いありません。彼らの経験はこれからも自身に対する挑戦をし続ける力を彼らに与えただけではなく、この報告会に参加した生徒達全員にコミュニケーション、興味関心、そして自身の居心地の良いテリトリーから飛び出して羽ばたく越境精神を新たに印象付けたことでしょう。

On April 30th after school, "Ekkyo Report" sessions were held in
HELLO Village's Communication space.

First, the three students who attended the Parliamentary Debate
World Conference and Competition (PDWC) shared their exciting
experiences in what they described as an intense yet inspiring
atmosphere. They spoke about how they had to combine their
efforts, support each other, and face each challenging round of the competition together. They also shared heartwarming stories of
forming friendships with students from around the world, with
English acting as a bridge between diverse cultures. One
memorable learning moment came from another non-native
English-speaking competitor: they concluded that the key to
effective communication is having the courage to express yourself, rather than worrying about making mistakes.

Next, three other students who took part in the Vietnam Fieldwork shared what they discovered during their homestay and high
school visit. The students at Le Quy Don High School warmly
welcomed them, and our students were quickly immersed in
Vietnamese culture—from the local food and daily lifestyle to
surprising customs like taking naps after lunch. They also joined
classes, including a hands-on STEM lesson, and enjoyed
meaningful connections with their Vietnamese peers. While the
fieldwork was full of fun and learning, they also spoke about the
deep sadness they felt when visiting the Vietnam War Remnants
Museum—a powerful and emotional part of their journey.

Through these reports, it was clear that these international
experiences had a profound and positive impact on those who
participated, strengthening their confidence in using English. Their stories not only encouraged them to continue challenging
themselves, but also reminded all students of the power of
communication, curiosity, and stepping beyond their comfort
zones.

団体・個人共に全階級優勝することができました。特に1・2年生の成長を感じることができたことは大きな収穫です。しかし、まだまだ課題も多く残る大会でした。課題を修正し来週の金沢大会、月末のインターハイ予選に臨みたいと思います。

ニセコ高校 WORLD VILLAGE OPENING CEREMONY

On Saturday, April 26th, Hokkaido prefecture’s Niseko High School held their grand opening for their new “Eigo Mura” called “World
Village,” becoming the 2nd official English village at a Japanese
high school. The ceremony officially pronounced the opening of the
new facility and was highlighted by a presentation by some of the
school’s students, sharing the numerous exciting activities that
they have previously held and their hopes for future events.

Kris Ohashi, HELLO Village’s village mayor, also took part in the
ceremony as a special advisor and made a speech about the past
10 years of HELLO Village’s role as a hub for global education at
Hiyoshigaoka High School, World Village’s potential to bring the
community of Niseko Town together and the hope for future
collaborations with HELLO Village. Congratulations to Motoya
Sensei, the principal of Niseko High School, World Village
coordinator Ms. Kato, as well as the students and teachers of
Niseko High School ontheir exciting new facility. We look forward to working closely together to bring many more exciting “ekkyo”
opportunities for our students!

4月26日（土）北海道のニセコ高校はWorld Villageという英語村の新設を祝して開会式を催しました。このWorld Villageは日本の高校の中では2番目の公式の英語村となります。開会式では正式にこの施設のオープニングを宣言し、ニセコ高校生によるプレゼンテーションでその成果を際立たせていました。生徒達はプレゼンテーションで事前に行われたいくつものワクワクするようなアクティビティや、これからのイベントへの期待を紹介しました。

日吉ケ丘高校HELLO Villageの村長であるクリス・オオハシもまた、スペシャルアドバイザーとしてこの開会式に参加し10周年を迎えたHello
Villageのグローバル教育のハブとしての役割、World Villageのニセコ町のコミュニティをまとめていく可能性、そして将来的にHello Villageとのコラボへの期待感について語りました。

ニセコ高校校長の本谷先生、World Villageのコーディネーター加藤氏、そしてニセコ高校の生徒達や先生方に、この心躍る施設の新設を心よりお祝い申し上げます。これから私達双方の生徒達へより一層多くの越境体験の機会を作り出していくために、一層の協業を期待しております。
