HELLO Village Week II Day4 Part I

　HELLO Village Week IIの４日目ランチタイムは，ミッションの獲得ポイントが２倍になる「Globy Point Spree」が開催されました。多くの生徒たちがHELLO Villageを訪れ，英語の4技能が向上するように工夫された様々なミッションをこなしていました。例えば，生徒たちは越境体験とそこから学んだことについてALTたちに2分間説明するスピーキングの課題をしたり，「Creating a new event at Hiyoshigaoka」というトピックについて，自分の考えを述べるライティングの課題をしたりしていました。それ以外にも，生徒たちは写真を見て国を当てるミッションや，学校のどこかに隠されたグロービーからのメッセージを探し出すミッションなどを楽しんでいました。

　On Nov. 15th, as a lunchtime event of HELLO Village Week II Day4, we had ‘Globy Point Spree’. In this event, students get double Globy points when they complete the missions. Quite a few students visited HELLO Village and carried out their missions. These missions are designed for students to improve four English language skills. For example, one speaking mission is to talk about ‘Ekkyou Experience’ and what students learned from it, and one writing mission is to create a new event at Hiyoshigaoka and express what it looks like. Moreover, in order to get Globy points, students enjoyed doing extra missions such as looking at the photos and guessing what country it is in, and finding hidden Globy massages around the school.

【ダンス部】 2年連続全国大会出場を決めました！

11月12日(土)に、東和薬品ラクタブドーム(門真市)にて行われた令和４年度ダンスドリル秋季競技大会 関西大会 HIPHOP女子 Medium部門に出場しました。
入賞は逃しましたが、好成績を収めることができ、2年連続の全国大会出場を決めました。全国大会は1月14〜15日に東京・調布にて開催されます。この度は保護者の皆様をはじめ、ご支援・ご協力いただき、誠にありがとうございました。今後ともよろしくお願いいたします。

これまでの練習期間で私たちは厳しい練習も乗り越えてきました。
今回の大会には日吉ケ丘高校から2チーム出場しました。
昨年の先輩方には全国大会へ連れてくださり、とても良い経験をさせていただきました。
今年も予選通過を目標にメンバー一丸となって頑張ってきました。
入賞することはできませんでしたが予選通過することができてとても嬉しい気持ちでいっぱいです。
私たちがここまでこれたのは顧問の先生方をはじめ、３年生の先輩方、家族、仲間の支えがあったからです。本当に感謝しています。応援してくださった沢山の方々ありがとうございました。全国大会では入賞を目指して一生懸命頑張っていきます！

振付、構成、ダンスのレベルが高く、「さすが1・2年生、かっこよすぎる！」と思わされました。1月の全国大会でいい結果を残してくれると信じています。

第２回「本屋DE選書会」を行いました！

11月11日（金）日吉ケ丘高校の本好きの生徒が集まり、本屋さんに出向いて、本校図書館に入れる本を選書しました。それぞれが決められた予算内で真剣に、楽しく選書していました。選んでくれた本は、11月下旬頃から図書館内に展示していく予定です。

京都府高等学校剣道新人大会（団体）準優勝

１１月１２日（土）に京都府高等学校剣道新人大会（団体）が京都市武道センターにて行われました。３年ぶりの有観客の中で見事準優勝することができました。新たなチームで挑む初めての試合で少しも油断できない厳しい試合もありましたがそれぞれがお互いを補い合い、このような結果を収めることができました。たくさん応援していただきありがとうございました。今後も、１月の選抜予選に向けていい結果を残せるよう
頑張りますので引き続き応援をよろしくお願い致します。

HELLO Village Week II Day3

　HELLO Village Week II 3日目は「Ekkyo Poster Session」が放課後に行われました。8人の発表者が二つのグループに分かれ、様々な越境体験について話してくれました。ALTのハロルドさんは旅することの重要さについて，アナスタシアさんは日本に来て受けたカルチャーショックについて発表しました。現在日吉ヶ丘で学んでいる留学生の3人はそれぞれ自分の生まれ故郷であるインディアナ州，メイン州，カルフォルニア州について話しました。日吉ヶ丘の生徒二人はカナダへの留学，そして宮崎県の都農町で行ったフィールドワークについて発表しました。そして，日吉ヶ丘の卒業生がアフリカのスラム街などを訪れた時の体験などについて話しました。どのポスターセッションも人気で，集まった生徒たちは興味深い内容にうなずきながら聞いたり，疑問に思ったことは最後のQ&Aセクションで質問したりしていました。

　On Nov. 14th, as an event in HELLO Village Week II, there was ‘Ekkyo Poster Session’. We had 8 speakers, two ALTs, three exchange students, two Hiyoshi students, one graduate. They were divided into two groups and talked about their ‘Ekkyo’ experiences. Here are the topics in the poster session. Two ALTs gave a talk about the importance of traveling abroad and culture shock they have experienced in Japan. Three exchange students talked about their home states, Indiana, Maine, and California. Two Hiyoshi students spoke about the three-week experience of studying in Canada, and the fieldwork in Tsuno-cho in Miyazaki. One graduate gave a speech about her experience in Africa. Each poster session was popular and attended by many students who listened to the speakers with increasing interest and asked questions in Q&A section.
　We have two more days! Tomorrow, we will have two events ‘Globy Point Spree’ at lunch time and ‘Romania Zoom Session’ after school.

16th HIYOSHIGAOKA Recitation Contest

　中学生対象レシテーションコンテストの決勝がHELLO Villageで行われ、予選を勝ち抜いた中学生10名がレシテーションを行いました。今年度の課題文は「Do the Small Things in a Big Way」で，小さなことを積み重ねることで大きなことも実現できるという考え方について語ったものです。
　参加者たちは発表が始まるまでは緊張した面持ちでしたが，一人一人が内容をしっかり解釈し、自分なりの思いを込めて、身振り手振りと共に素晴らしい暗唱を披露してくれました。クリス村長も述べていた通り，全ての発表がレベルが大変高く，また感情がこもっており，私たちの心に響きました。参加者の皆さん、大変印象的なレシテーションをありがとうございました。
　レシテーション終了後は本校生徒ともに、英語のゲームを楽しみました。初めて出会う生徒同士でペアを組み、話し合いながらゲームを行うことで、それぞれがコミュニケーションの楽しさを感じてくれていたように思います。
　参加者、スタッフ、一人一人の尽力により、無事に開催され、素晴らしい大会となりましたこと、心より御礼申し上げます。今後もHELLO Village では様々な越境体験を提供していければ思っています。

　On Nov. 12th, the 16th Hiyoshigaoka Recitation Contest was held at HELLO Village. This time, 10 junior high school students who passed the screening process joined the final competition.
　The assignment this year was ‘Do the Small Things in a Big Way’ which tells us the importance of keeping doing small things little by little. Although all speakers first looked nervous, once they started their performances, they showed the clear understanding of the essay and made great performances with effective gestures.
　As Kris, the Mayor of HELLO Village, said, all the speeches were so nice and expressive that we were all touched by them. Thank you for your impressive speeches.
　When the judges had the serious problem deciding which speech was the best, Hiyoshi students presented ‘mini Pub Quiz’ for honoring the contestants. 10 junior high school students this time made teams and worked together, each enjoying communicating with other contestants in English.
　We are really glad that we had the recitation contest this year in this era of COVID-19. We hope HELLO Village keeps offering opportunities for various crossing-border experiences.

フォーシーズンス゛ホテル職業体験（終了試験）

　９月以降６回に分けて実施してきた職業体験プログラムも最後の終了試験を迎えました。これまで学んできたことの集大成として、生徒たちは緊張感をもって臨みました。
　フォーシーズンス゛ホテルの外国人従業員の方がお客様役になり、ホテル玄関にてお出迎え（写真左）、チェックイン後客室へご案内し設備等の説明をしました（同中）。生徒たちは、語学力の重要性を身をもって感じる一方で、「もてなし」の気持ちをもって接客することを学びました。修了証をご用意くださり、総支配人岸様（本校学校運営協議会　理事）より授与されました。（同右）
　職業体験を計画・実施してくださいましたフォーシーズンス゛ホテルの皆様、ありがとうございました。

　本校とフォーシーズンス゛ホテルとの連携について、次は「フォーシンズンズカップ」（１２月１３日同ホテルチャペルにて開催）です。本校クリスカップの優秀生徒、レシテーションコンテストで表彰を受けた中学生が場所を改めてスピーチします。東山地域を中心に一般の方も聴衆として参加することができます。詳細は後日、このHPにてご案内いたします。

HELLO Village Week II Day 2

　11月11日，HELLO Village Week IIの2日目は，放課後にALTによるプレゼンテーション「Japanese Culture around the World」が行われました。生徒たちは「どのような日本文化が海外で知られているのか」といった問いを各グループで話し合った後，ALTたちのトークを興味深そうに聞いていました。まずはジェシカさんが日本のアニメやコミックについて話してくれました。アメリカでは土曜日の朝に日本のアニメが放映され，定期的に大きなアニメイベントが開かれているそうです。次にハロルドさんがポケモンなど世界で知られている日本のテレビゲームについて話してくれました。そして自身のゲーム体験に基づいて，日本のゲームを通して世界中の人がどのようにして日本を経験するのかについて説明してくれました。続いて，エイスリンさんが日本のファッションについて話してくれました。生徒たちはグループごとに「世界で有名なファッションブランドは何か，またデザイナーは誰か」といった問いについて議論した後，日本のファッションがどうして世界中の人々を引き付けるのかについて説明を受けていました。最後に，アナスタシアさんが京都の花街で働く舞妓さん・芸妓についてその違いなどを話してくれました。生徒たちは本物と偽物の舞妓さん・芸妓さんを分けるクイズに挑戦して，自分たちの理解を深めていました。生徒たちは驚いたり納得したりしながら，様々な日本文化がどのように世界で受け入れられているのかを聞いていました。

　On Nov. 11th, HELLO Village Week Day 2 was held at HELLO Village. We had the afterschool event ‘Japanese Culture around the World’. In this event, our ALTs gave talks about Japanese cultures we find in the world. Students first discussed topics such as ‘What parts of Japanese culture do you think are popular in other countries?’ and then enjoyed listening to ALTs’ presentations. First, Jessica talked about how Japanese anime and comics have been accepted in US. According to her, Japanese anime is broadcasted every Saturday morning, and Japanese anime conventions are constantly held in US. Second, Harold gave a speech about famous Japanese video games (such as Pokemon) in the world. Based on his own experience, he explained how people in the world experience Japan through playing Japanese video games. Third, Aislinn gave a talk about Japanese fashion. In the talk, students were asked to discuss questions such as ‘What are famous Japanese fashion brands?’ and ‘Who are famous Japanese fashion designers in the world?’. Then, she explained why Japanese fashion is so popular in the world by using several concepts such as ‘wabi sabi’. Finally, Anastasiia talked about Maiko/Geiko in five Hanamachi in Kyoto. After the lesson about the differences between Maiko/Geiko, students tried to tell who are real and fake Maiko/Geiko on the slides. Students listened to ALT presentations with increasing interest, getting surprised and convinced.

HELLO Village Week II Day 1

　HELLO Village Week IIが今日から始まりました！今回のテーマは「Crossing Borders」（越境）です。この言葉にはクラス，学年，バックグラウンド，世代などの異なる様々な人々と交流しながら，生徒たちに何かに挑戦してほしいという意味が込められています。今日から一週間続くHELLO Village Week IIでは，そうした機会を提供できるようなイベントをたくさん用意しています。
　さて，本日の放課後に行われた最初のイベントは「JICA Presentation」です。助産師としてアフリカのガーナで2年間青年海外協力隊として活動されたミーコさんにお越しいただき，病院も医療機器もなく医師もいない地域で，それまでに培ってきた経験と知識だけで助産師として働き，無力感を感じながらも出産を見守ってきた日々についてお話しいただきました。
　生徒たちはミーコさんの興味深いお話しを聞いた後，Ｑ＆Ａセクションで様々なことを質問していました。例えば「医療従事者としてガーナで働くとしたら，大学を卒業した後すぐに現地へ行く，日本で経験を積んだ後に現地に行く，このうちのどちらがいいですか」という生徒の質問に対して，ミーコさんは間違いなく後者だと回答され，経験を積まないうちに現地に行っても何もできないというのがその理由でした。生徒たちは，言語も文化も異なる場所で2年間助産師として働き，現地の人々と深く交流してきたからこその貴重な話を聞くことができ，自分の将来や進路などについて考えるいい機会を得ることができました。
　HELLO Village Week IIは今日から来週の16日（水）まで一週間続きます。明日は放課後にＡＬＴたちによるプレゼンテーション「Japanese Culture around the World」が予定されています。

　HELLO Village Week II started today! The theme this time is ‘Crossing Borders’. We chose this word because we want students to challenge themselves in a situation where they interact with other students from different classes, people with different backgrounds or from a different generation. In HELLO Village Week II, we will offer various events that enable students to have such experiences.
　Today, there was ‘JICA Presentation’ as the afterschool event. We welcomed Miko who was a member of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and worked as a midwife in Ghana for two years. She had to work in a region where there were no hospitals, no medical devices, no doctors, and felt helpless because the cutting-edge medical knowledge she had acquired in Japan had no use there. Although working in Ghana was the hardest time for her, she told that, in retrospect, that was also the most fulfilling and precious time.
　After Miko’s fascinating story, students asked many questions in Q&A section. One question from a student was ‘If we work as a medical staff in Ghana, which is better, (i) to start working there as soon as possible after graduating a medical school, or (ii) to work and get experience in Japan first and then work in Ghana?’ Miko’s answer was (ii) because a medical staff without any practical medical knowledge and experience can do nothing there. By listening to a real story only someone who worked in a different country and had deep interactions with people there can tell, students got a good opportunity to think about what they want to do in the future.
　HELLO Village Week II lasts for a week until 16 th. We are planning to have the second event ‘Japanese Culture around the World’ tomorrow afte rschool.

英語科 2年次生Lコース生徒 越境体験 「授業内講演会」

　本日は、リベラルアーツコースのコミュニケーション英語２の授業内容に関連して、2004年から青年海外協力隊（現在JICA海外協力隊）に参加され、現在オリタ企画代表/フォトグラファーをされている織田　芳孝さんを講師にお迎えし、ご自身の「越境体験」についての講演をしていただきました。当時の活動体験から国際協力に対する考え方やご自身の変化について、熱く語って下さいました。

　スリランカやインドネシアの紹介と共に現地の人々に繋がる喜びを感じつつ、ただ支援するのではなく、自立できるように「点と点をつなぐ」苦労をされながら、世界でご活躍された貴重なお話をしてくださいました。また、日常の何気ない体験も熟していくことで大切なことに繋げて欲しいと生徒にエールを送って下さいました。
　
　この講演を切っ掛けに、生徒の進路に対する視野が更に広がったように感じました。今回、貴重なお話をしてくださった織田　芳孝さんに心より感謝申し上げます。（英語科・広報情報部）
