HELLO Village Week 1 第５日目

　6月19日（水）は、いよいよHELLO Village Week 1 も最終日となりました。最後は、「Conversation Cafe」が開催されました。これは10の様々なテーマを持つカフェ（ブース）をアメリカの高校生たち（前日とは異なるグループ）数人ずつで開いてもらい、各カフェを日吉ケ丘生たちがグループで回っていく形式です。クリス村長の合図で各カフェは一斉に積極的なコミュニケーションの場となりました。アメリカの高校生たちは日本語や日本文化に興味を持っており、日吉ケ丘生は英語とアメリカ文化に興味を持っていて、お互いに聞きたい知りたいことがいっぱいでした。1つのグループが1つのカフェで過ごせる時間が限られているので、少しでも多く語り合おうと皆、必死でした。心温まる笑いや拍手もあり活気のある時間が流れました。最後は、週末にアメリカの高校生たちと引率の先生方が催すピクニックにその場にいた日吉ケ丘生たち全員が招待されるなど、最終日にふさわしい盛り上がりを見せました。

　5日間にわたるHELLO Village Week１もついに本日で終了です。今回も多くの生徒が英語村を訪れ、母国語以外でコミュニケーションをとることの重要性に気づいてくれたという成果をもってイベントを無事終えることができました。これからも英語村では生徒達が様々な経験ができる機会を提供し続けていきたいと思っています。

On June 19th, HELLO Village Week 1 held the final event. It was
called “Conversation Cafe”. There were 10 cafes (booths) set with
different themes opened by a group of American students (another group different from the day before). Hiyoshigaoka students visited each cafe in groups and communicated with American students.
These American students were attracted to Japanese language and culture and had a lot to ask Hiyoshigaoka students and so did our
students to English and American culture. Since each group could
spend a short amount of time in one cafe, all students were
interacting enthusiastically. There was hearty laughter and clapping everywhere and the HELLO Village Communication space was filled with life and energy. Lastly, all the Hiyoshigaoka students were
invited to a picnic party held on the weekend by American high
school students and their chaperones.

5 days HELLO Village Week 1 has finally closed with a successful
result. This event attracted many students, and they all realized
the importance of communication in a language other than their
native tongue. We will keep offering various new authentic
experiences to students.

HELLO Village Week 1 第4日目

　6月18日（火）はHELLO Village Week１の4日目！いつでも生徒達を夢中にする「HELLO Village Week PUB QUIZ CHALLENGE」の日でした。日吉ケ丘生は3日目とは異なるアメリカからの高校生とチームを組んでKris村長の繰り出す難問に挑戦しました。うまく言葉が通じないときはホワイトボードを使いお互いの考えを伝えあい、日米で協力し合い、正解が出ると心から喜んでいる様子が伝わってきました。おなじみの、
「Word Search」、「Common Answer」、「One of a Kind」、
「Music Video Quiz」に加えて「Olympics Quiz」が大きな項目でした。1つ1つの質問が興味深い内容で教職員にも勉強になりました。
　最初こそ、とても大人っぽく感じられる留学生たちでしたが、Quizを通してすぐに打ち解けていく様子に若さのパワーを感じました。いよいよ明日が最終日です。

On the fourth day of HELLO Village Week 1, the “HELLO Village
Week PUB QUIZ CHALLENGE” was held. Hiyoshigaoka students
were made into teams with different American students from the
day before and struggled with the challenging questions given by
Mayor Kris. Sometimes they used white boards which enabled
further communication then just speaking, and when they got the correct answer, they were genuinely delighted. In addition to the
familiar quizzes such as the “Word Search”,” Common Answers”,
“One of a Kind”, and the “Music Video Quiz”, we also had an
“Olympics Quiz”. Each quiz was interesting and became a good
lesson for the teachers as well.

In the beginning, the Hiyoshigaoka students were bashful in front
of the seemingly mature-looking American students but through
cooperating with each other to answer the quiz questions, they
became good friends in no time. Just by looking at them we could
feel their youthful energy. Tomorrow will be the last day of “HELLO Village Week 1” of this year.

HELLO Village Week １ 第三日目

　HELLO Village Week１の3日目はアメリカの高校生25人を迎えて、「Olympic Games Event」が開催されました。まず、両国の高校生たちはお昼を一緒に食べながら会話に花を咲かせ、その後、本校のALTによるオリンピックの歴史や意義に関するプレゼンがあり、感動的で興味深い内容に皆聞き入っていました。
　メインイベントの「Globy Olympics」では村長やALT達がパラリンピックを含む5つのオリンピックにちなんだブースを開き、アメリカ、日吉ケ丘の生徒たちは一緒に体を動かす課題をこなしてHELLO Village Week のブックレットにGloby Pointを集めていました。このGloby Pointの高得点者にはHELLO Village Week終了後、賞品が用意されています。　　
　生徒たちは新しい体験を通して瞬く間に仲良くなり、お互いの連絡先を交換したりしながら、別れを惜しんでいました。

On the third day of HELLO Village Week 1 on June 17th, we held
the “Olympic Games Event” welcoming 25 high school students
from America. First, while having lunch together, students from
Hiyoshigaoka and America had lively conversations. After lunch,
the ALTs of our school made a presentation on the history and
significance of the Olympics. It was so interesting and moving that everyone in HELLO Village was listening and watching intently.

Then the main event, the “Globy Olympics” started. For this event, Mayor Kris and the ALTs ran 5 different booths which were related
to the Olympics including one for the Paralympics. Both the
American and Hiyoshigaoka students went around each booth
completing the physical tasks and earned Globy points for their
HELLO Village Week booklets. The points will later be used to earn Prizes at the end of the week.

The students enjoyed having new experiences and making new
connections by sharing contact information at the end.

HELLO Village Week １ 第二日目

　6月14日（金）HELLO Village Week１の2日目のお昼休みは「Talent Show」が行われました。英語村では立ち見がたくさん出るほどの生徒や先生方が集まり、発表者たちの素晴らしいパフォーマンスに歓声を上げたり手拍子したりしながら、応援していました。どのパフォーマンスも会場に集まった全員から惜しみない拍手が送られていました。今回は素敵な歌、バンド演奏そしてルービックキューブ10個を2分半で完成させるというものまでありました。
　放課後は獲得グロービーポイントが倍になる「Globy Point Spree」が開催されました。「ALTとゲームをして勝つ」や「ある英語の本の中身に対する質問に答える」など英語の4技能が向上するように工夫された様々なミッションをこなしてはALTにサインをもらっていました。どの顔も満面の笑みで楽しさがすごく伝わってきました。

On June 14th, the second day of HELLO Village Week 1, we had a
lunch time event, “Talent Show”. There were so many students and teachers that even standing room was packed. In this “Talent
Show”, we had beautiful singing, a band, and a Rubik’s Cube
performance (completing 10 Rubik’s Cubes in 2 and a half
minutes). There were shouts of admiration and a lot of clapping on the beat of the musical performances. Every performer was given
thunderous applause.

After school, “Globy Point Spree” was held. There were many
missions like “Play a game against an ALT and win.” or “Answer to
the questions on a certain English book in this village.” The
missions are all designed carefully to enhance 4 important English skills. For today only, completing a mission meant students could
get double Globy points. All students were beaming with smiles,
and we could feel the excitement on their faces.

HELLO Village Week １ 第一日目

　今年も年間で最大のイベントHELLO Village Week１（6月13日〜19日）が始まりました。今回のテーマは、もうすぐ行われるパリオリンピックにちなんで「The Olympics」−スポーツを通して世界とつながる−です。国籍や言語の壁を感じることなく人と人が純粋にスポーツで競い合うことで繋がっていく世界を学び、この精神をコミュニケーション力につないでいって欲しいという思いが込められています。
　初日の今日は、昼休みにアメリカからの留学生 平井美咲さんの自己紹介も交えてのOpening Ceremoniesがありました。クリス村長よりこれから一週間のイベントの説明にCommunication Spaceからあふれるほどの生徒達は大いに盛り上がっていました。
　放課後のイベント「Open ESS」では、いつもESSで楽しんでいる英語を使ってのアクティビティやゲームが体験できます。まずは、ウォームアップでHELLO Village Weekブックレットにあるミッションをクリアします。その後、Jeopardy Gameではチームに分かれていろいろな項目の質問に答えて点数を競いました。「1964年東京オリンピックで加えられたスポーツは柔道と何？」などの問題にチームで知恵を出し合って頑張りました。優勝チームにはグロービーポイント10点が付与され大喜びでした。
19日まで続く、このイベントはこの後も「Talent Show」「Globy Point Spree」「The Olympic Games Event」「PUB QUIZ」「Conversation Cafe」などのイベントが目白押しです。

HELLO Village Week 1 (June 13th~19th) has started today! This is one of the biggest biannual events of the year. The theme this time is “The Olympics” based on the 2024 Paris Olympics starting in
July. The goal of the Olympics is to connect with people around the world through sports. Sports allow us to connect with each other
through genuinely competing against each other and knocking
down the walls of nationality or language differences. We want
students to learn this spirit and create a link with communication
ability.

Today at lunch time, the event started with “Opening Ceremonies” along with the introduction of a new exchange student from
U.S.A.: Misaki Hirai. The Communication Space of HELLO Village
was filled with students and their faces all lit up when Mayor Kris
explained the activities that will be held each day during this
special week.

The event after school was “Open ESS” where anyone can
experience the English games and activities enjoyed by the ESS
club. For warm-up, students cleared missions in the HELLO Village Week booklet. And then students divided into teams to compete
with other teams playing “Jeopardy Game”. In this game, a
question like “In the 1964 Tokyo Olympics two new sports were
added. Judo and .....?” were asked. They were very difficult;
however, they united their efforts as a team. The team that came
in first place was thrilled to be given 10 Globy points.

HELLO Village Week 1 will go on till June 19th followed by many
more events : “Talent Show”, “Globy Point Spree”, “The Olympics
Games Event”, “PUB QUIZ” and “Conversation Cafe”.

PUB QUIZ

5月30日（木）、毎年恒例となっている１学期の「Pub Quiz」が英語村で開催されました。放課後、英語村に集まった生徒たちは８チームに分かれ、クリス村長から出題される様々なクイズにチームメイトと協力して挑み、楽しく学ぶ時を過ごしました。

今回出題された問題は、綴りが入れ替えられた国名や食べ物を解読する「Unscramble the Words」、それぞれのイベントが起こった年度を与えられた中から選ぶ「Picture Round」、他のチームの解答を予測して一番多い答を導き出す「Common Answers」、他のチームとは異なる解答を導き出す「One of a Kind」、そして最後はAriana GrandeのPVを見てその映像に関する問題に答える「Music Video Quiz」でした。
正解するたびに拍手が沸き起こり、生徒たちは大いに盛り上がっていました。今回も熾烈なトップ争いの結果、１位に輝いたのはチーム「Team
Careless Ryuzi」。２位は1点差で優勝を逃した「Team Mana」でした。

参加した生徒達は大いに楽しみながら生きた英語に触れ、新たな知識も得ることができ、喜んでいました。この後は、6月13日（木）〜
19日（水）にイベントHELLO Village Weekの開催が予定されていて、生徒たちに様々な形で世界の文化と英語に触れる機会を提供します。

On May 30th, the first ‘Pub Quiz’ of the year was held at HELLO
Village. 8 teams of students joined this event and enjoyed the quiz challenges from the mayor Kris!

The students worked with their team-members to solve the
following quiz rounds: ‘Unscramble the Words’ – unscrambling
letters to spell foods and countries –, a ‘Picture Round’ – guessing what year a certain event happened –, ‘Common Answers’
–guessing the most common answer among teams to a question
given –, ‘One of a Kind’, – trying to write an answer that is
different from all of the other teams –, and a ‘Music Video Quiz’ – watching a music video and answering questions about details in
the video.

Every time an answer was announced, HELLO Village was full of
cheers and applause! The winner was ‘Team Careless Ryuzi’,
followed by ‘Team Mana,’ who lost by only one point. The students who participated in this event were able to enjoy authentic English and acquire new knowledge.

The third event of the year will be the always-exciting “HELLO
Village Week 1” (6/13~6/19), filled with events during lunchtime
and after school to offer various opportunities for students to enjoy English and foreign cultures.

EASTER EVENT

　4月25日（木）の放課後、英語村においてイースターイベントが行われました。このイベントではまず、イースターの起源や現在も行われている伝統的なイースターのアクティビティについて、ALTのデバルトとアナスタシアさんが説明してくれました。生徒たちは、二人のプレゼンを楽しみつつ、イースターについて知識を深めました。
その後は、最初のアクティビティとして、イースターエッグデコレーションを行いました。これは紙の卵に色とりどりの絵柄を描いて自分だけのオリジナルのイースターエッグを作るというものです。そして次のアクティビティでは生徒たちはチームに分かれて、エッグハントを行いました。これは、校内HELLO Village内や周辺に隠されたプラスチック製の卵を探し出し、その中に仕込まれているミッションをこなして獲得した点数を競うというものです。生徒たちはチームで相談しながら、どこかに隠されている卵を探し回り、伝統的かつ一般的なイースターのイベントを楽しみました。
　英語村ではこの後も5月30日にクイズ形式のイベントであるPUB QUIZを開催予定です。今年度も引き続き、海外の文化に触れあう機会を提供していきたいと思います。


　On Apr. 25th, after school, the annual Easter Event was held at
HELLO Village. In this event, two of our ALTs, Dewald and
Anastasiia, began by explaining the origin and the history of Easter and about the traditional activities people have on the day.
Students enjoyed listening to their interesting talks and deepened
their knowledge of Easter.
　For the first activity, students made original paper Easter egg
decorations. Then, for the second activity, they enjoyed an Easter
Egg Hunt, which is a traditional activity in many foreign countries. They looked for plastic eggs in and around HELLO Village and
competed against each other in groups to see who completed the most missions placed inside each egg.
　In May, we are going to have the second event of this year, the
Pub Quiz, which will be another chance for students to enjoy
English activities.
　HELLO Village will continue to be a place which provides
opportunities for students to experience and learn about cultures
around the world and at the same time enjoy using English as a
communication tool.

第一回英語村委員会

４月１６日（火）英語村レクチャースペースで、今年度第一回「英語村委員会」が開かれました。この委員会は各クラスより２名選出された生徒たちによって構成されており、クラスと英語村をつなぐ重要な役割を担っています。そして英語村での様々なイベントにボランティアスタッフとして参加し運営に協力したりもします。
第一回の委員会では、さっそく４月の英語村カレンダー、４月２５日に行われる「イースターイベント」や５月３０日に行われる「パブクイズ１」のポスターを教室掲示してイベントの内容をクラスへ説明するミッションが与えられました。
全員、生き生きとした表情で、３年生の委員長の説明に熱心に聞き入っていました。


　On April 16th, at the HELLO Village Lecture Space, the 1st
HELLO Village Class Representatives Meeting of this school year
was held. This meeting includes two representatives from each
class, and they take on the important responsibility of being a
bridge between their classes and HELLO Village. Their job is also to participate in various events as volunteer staff and help conduct
events.
　At this first meeting, the representatives were given a HELLO
Village Calendar, posters of upcoming events −the Easter Event on April 25th and Pub Quiz１on May 30th – to put up in their
classrooms and are to explain the events to their classmates.
　All representatives had lively expressions and listened to the
third-year leader of this meeting intently.

HELLO Village オリエンテーション

Welcome to HELLO Village!

　新入生向けのHELLO Villageオリエンテーションが4月9日（火）と
10日（水）の2日に分けて行われました。このオリエンテーションでは初めにHELLO Villageのメンバーや施設，季節ごとに行われる様々なイベントの紹介がありました。すべてクリス村長による英語の説明でしたが、生徒達は真剣な面持ちで、しっかりとうなずいていました。国際教育担当の先生方のスペイン語での自己紹介にも驚きながらも国際色豊かなHELLO
Villageを理解してくれたようでした。
　その後は，さっそくHELLO Villageを体験してもらうため，村長クリスによるミニパブクイズが行われました。すべてが英語で行われ，新一年生達は少し緊張した様子でしたが，すぐにクイズを楽しみ始め，正解が発表されるたび歓声を上げていました。
　今月は4月25日（木）に今年初のイベントであるEaster Partyが開催されます。HELLO Villageではこれからも英語や海外の文化に触れる機会をたくさん提供していきます。

　The HELLO Village Orientation for first graders was held on April
9th and 10th. During this event, we introduced HELLO Village staff members, talked about the facility and different seasonal events
such as the Halloween Party where students can directly
experience different cultures. All the students listened intently to
Village Mayor Kris’ thorough explanation in English nodding their
heads. International Education Department members introduced
themselves in Spanish and the students were all astonished for a
moment, but they seemed to grasp the international atmosphere
of this facility.
　After the introduction, the first-graders experienced HELLO
Village through a Pub Quiz in which they faced the quiz challenges
from Mayor Kris. Although the students were a little bit nervous at first, they enjoyed the Pub Quiz, asking ALTs for some clues and
shouted in joy when they got the right answers.
　The first cultural event of the year, the Easter Party, will be held on April 25th. It will be a chance for everyone to enjoy
communicating in English and experiencing foreign culture. We are looking forward to seeing many people there!
