今回のHELLO Village Week のテーマは『Identity: What Makes You Unique?』 コンテスト結果 1年の部 1位 寺田 弥稜「My Treasure」 2位 澤田 祐芽「Welcome to Yume's World」 3位 若井 真青空「Is That True?」 特別賞 森田 琉心「My Experience In Tsunocho」 2年の部 1位 木原 琉翔「Marked For Death」 2位 番留 よしきこうじ「The Mandela Effect」 3位 渡邊 栞「Splendor of World Heritage Sites」 特別賞 野木 隼「The School Rule」 On Nov. 22nd, as the final event of HELLO Village Week II, 8th KRIS CUP English Speech Contest was held at HELLO Village. We had 9 first-graders, 9 second-graders, and 3 exchange students as participants this time. We were amazed by their expressive speeches because we could tell how much efforts they made for their great speeches. The themes of the speeches were from what they like, school activities, happiness, to their treasures. All the speeches effectively expressed their ideas, thoughts, and feelings. The audience laughed by their humor and was moved by their stories. It is quite tough to think in non-native languages and make a speech in public, but we are proud of our students who did it well at the stage of HELLO Village. We have ‘Identity: What Makes You Unique?’ as the theme of HELLO Village Week II. We chose this word because we want students to get a better and deeper understanding about themselves and express what they are by interacting with other students and people with different backgrounds during this week. In their challenge, some students might think ‘I could have expressed myself better’, but that’s okay. We are really glad that they courageously challenged themselves by making a speech in KRIS CUP. Results: The First-Grade Gold Prize: Mikado Terada ‘My Treasure’ Silver Prize: Yume Sawada ‘Welcome To Yume's World’ Bronze Prize: Mark Wakai ‘Is That True?’ Special Prize: Riko Morita ‘My Experience In Tsunocho’ The Second-Grade Gold Prize: Ryuto Kihara ‘Marked For Death’ Silver Prize: Yoshikikoji Bantome ‘The Mandela Effect’ Bronze Prize: Shiori Watanabe ‘Splendor of World Heritage Sites’ Special Prize: Hayato Nogi ‘The School Rule’ HELLO Village Week II Day5 Part 1On Nov. 22nd, Day4 of HELLO Village Week II, we had ‘Globy Point Spree’ during lunchtime. In this event, students can get double Globy points, and so quite a few students actually visited HELLO Village and carried out their missions. These missions are designed for students to improve their English skills. For example, one speaking mission is to talk about their future dreams for one minute, and one writing mission is to write about their biggest strength. Moreover, in order to get Globy points, students enjoyed doing extra missions such as writing massages to their friends, and playing games with ALTs. On Nov. 21st, Day4 of HELLO Village Week II, there was the event ‘HELLO Village Week Poster Session’. Three exchange students, Nat, Katie, Emily, respectively introduced their home countries or states, Thailand, Washington (America), California (America), especially in terms of nature and sight-seeing places. The first student-group gave a speech about what they have done in Tsuno-chou Fieldwork in Miyazaki. The second group talked about their experiences in UK when they joined Tobitate Japan Studying Abroad Program. The third group introduced their activity with Vietnamese students in JAPANAM program. Each poster session was popular and attended by many students who listened to the speakers with increasing interest and asked questions in Q&A section. Finally, only one more day is left! HELLO Village Week II Day4 Part IOn Nov.21st, Day 4 of HELLO Village Week II, we had the lunchtime event ‘Hiyoshi Idol Talent Show’. So many students and teachers came to HELLO Village and held their breaths or cheered for the students who were a bit nervous but showed their talents and made amazing performances. On the show, we had 5 student performances: singing with instrumental accompaniment (3 groups), dance, and band performance. Each performance group received generous applause from the audience! Today, another event ‘Poster Session’ is also waiting for us this afternoon. On Nov. 20th, Day 3 of HELLO Village Week II, we had ‘Open ESS’ afterschool. About 40 students got together at HELLO Village and joined the activity ‘Identity Roulette’. In this activity, they first answered 6 questions such as ‘What is your hobby?’ and ‘What would your friends or family say about you?’. Here, they were allowed to make imaginative or fictional answers. After that, they exchanged their answers for other students’ ones in order to make a unique person whose features are composed of other students’ answers. The second and last activity was the mini ‘Globy Point Spree’. Students energetically did their missions and tried their best for getting many Globy points. Only two more days are left for HELLO Village Week II! ‘Hiyoshi Idol Talent Show’ and ‘Poster Session’ are waiting for us tomorrow. On Nov. 17th, Day 2 of HELLO Village Week, we had ‘Pub Quiz Challenge’ at HELLO Village. Before the event, in commemoration of the interaction between Hiyoshigaoka and Le Quy Don Highschool, a traditional Vietnamese printing, traditional Vietnamese hats (Non la), and picture postcards were presented from Le Quy Don to Hiyoshigaoka! In Pub Quiz, Hiyoshi students, Le Quy Don students, and Hiyoshi exchange students, made 9 international teams and faced Kris’ challenge. They enjoyed working together in English for solving the following quizzes: ‘Word Search’ (finding meaningful words from letters arranged in a grid-like way), ‘Picture Round’ (putting 10 foreign movies in the right order), ‘Common Answers’ (guessing the same answer shared by the other teams), ‘One of a Kind’ (guessing a unique answer not shared by the other teams), and ‘Music Video’ (Watching a music video and answering the questions about it). HELLO Village Week II will last until Nov. 22nd. ‘Hiyoshi Idol Talent Show’, ‘Kris Cup Speech Contest’, and other events are waiting for us next week! HELLO Village Week II (Nov.16th-22nd) got started Today! The theme this time is ‘Identity’. We hope students will get a better understanding about themselves, by joining various events about identity in the Week. On the first day, we had the opening ceremony during lunchtime and ALT’s presentation ‘Language and Identity’ after school. In this presentation, our ALTs talked about various topics as follows: codes and symbols in languages (Harold), how we express our emotions and thoughts by gestures (Anastasiia), the idea that switching languages means changing identities (Aislinn), English in South Africa (Dewald). Students listened to each talk with interest and joined some activities such as Common Gestures and Guess the Word (in South African English). In HELLO Village Week II (Nov.16th-22nd), many other events, such as ‘Pub Quiz’, ‘Poster Session’ and ‘Kris Cup Speech Contest’ are waiting for us! On Nov. 11th, the 17th Hiyoshigaoka Recitation Contest was held at HELLO Village. This time, 9 junior high school students who passed the screening process joined the final competition. The assignment this year was Michelle Obama’s ‘Advice to Students’ which tells us that what defines us is our choice we make in difficult moments, not in successful moments. All speakers first looked nervous, but once they started their performances, they showed the clear understanding of the essay and made great performances with effective gestures. As Kris, the Mayor of HELLO Village, said, all the speeches were so nice and expressive that we were all touched by them. Thank you for your impressive speeches. After that, when the judges had the serious problem deciding which speech was the best, we had two relaxing activities for the competitors. In the first activity, an exchange student from Thailand (who now studies at Hiyoshi) introduced his country and hometown. The attendants listened to his talk with interest. In the second activity, Hiyoshi students presented ‘mini Pub Quiz’. The contestants this time made teams and worked together, each enjoying communicating with other contestants in English. We are really glad that we had the recitation contest this year, and hope HELLO Village keeps giving opportunities for various crossing-border experiences to everyone. Halloween Event Part IIThe main event was, of course, making Jack-o’-Lanterns. Facing huge pumpkins, students worked together for carving pumpkins and put their hands in them. As a result of their efforts and ingenuity, we got seven Jack-o’-Lanterns each of which has its own unique face! At the end, we wrapped up Halloween Event by taking a group photo with our seven lanterns. Halloween Event Part IWe had Halloween Event at HELLO Village after school on October 25th. Students and ALTs wore costumes and became someone or something else. In the first part, students enjoyed Halloween-version games such as ‘word search’ and ‘nervous breakdown’. Then, ALTs gave a talk about the beginning and the history of Halloween and how people in the world enjoy Halloween. After the talk, as an activity, students were asked to escape from the ‘haunted’ HELLO Village by participating several English activities and collecting clues for a way out. |
