HELLO Village Week Day As an event of HELLO Village Week Day3, Scavenger Hunt was held on July 20th. Students made several teams and faced assignments from the Mayor Kris and ALTs. Some of the assignments are such as ‘What is the English message by the 1st grade shoe lockers?’, ‘How many tomato plants at the front of Hiyoshi?’, and ‘Using the maps outside, find the home economics room and office. What room is between them?’. Students competed each other for the fastest time of finishing all the assignments. After Scavenger Hunt, some students played games (such as Jenga and Connect 4) with Kris and ALTs in order to defeat them and get Globy points. Tomorrow will be the 4th and the final day of HELLO Village Week. As an after-school event, ALTs are going to talk about non-verbal communication. The first activity in the afternoon was making TV commercials on items such as a wooden sword, a remote controller, and national flags. Students unleashed their imaginations for making the items attractive by revealing the hidden aspects of them. After that, as the final activity, we had an extended version of Pub Quiz. Facing and struggling with the quiz challenges such as ‘Word Search’ and ‘Common Answer’, students raised their arms in triumph when they got right answers. Whenever answers were announced, HELLO Village was filled up with gales of laughter and shouts of joy. This time, Summer Day Camp was an event in HELLO Village Week, students from other grades also joined the camp online. For students, this event was a perfect opportunity for not only improving their English, but also achieving a common goal as a team. We are really glad that all the students enjoyed the day camp and the smiles of students finally came back to HELLO Village after the long spring holiday. We will safely run HELLO Village by taking appropriate preventive measures to protect students from infection. Summer Day Camp was held on July 18th as an event in HELLO Village Week. Second-grade students enjoyed this ‘English Only’ environment with the Mayor Kris, ALTs, and university-student volunteers. 5 teams composed of 3-4 students and 1-2 ALTs joined various activities and competed each other for the first place. As the first activity, each team made a team flag having its team-name and slogan. Under the same flag, students got ready to work together for various activities in this event. After that, they joined the activity ‘Building a Tower’ (building a paper-tower as high as possible). While some buildings were super tiny, others almost reached the ceil! As the last activity in the morning, students joined Scavenger Hunt, walking around the vicinity of the school (such as Tofukuji Temple). HELLO Village Week this semester got started on July 17th.
